On this page you will find a unit plan I created with my 7th grade field placement in mind, and connection to Wisconsin Teaching Standard 10
Unit Plan Analysis: I developed this unit plan based on my seventh grade students from my third field at New Berlin West Middle/High school. Although I never specifically taught the unit I developed a plan that could be taught in any seventh grade classroom. The theme of my unit plan is using text evidence to support analysis and determine inferences. I began by selecting key concepts I want my seventh grade student to be able to use and identify, "theme, imagery, protagonist, supporting characters". I then developed my objectives based from one Common Core standard. I created each lesson with intent to introduce each key concept. For each lesson I identify student objectives, skills, assessment and procedures. I also focus instruction around the "PEA" (point, evidence, analysis) strategy to support student learning. I also developed a product based assessment students will complete once the unit is complete. This unit was developed based on the academic needs of seventh grade students in relation to the Common Core. WTS 10: The teacher has the ability to effectively carry out rapports with school colleagues, parents, and the community to benefit the whole student.
I developed this unit plan based on students in a seventh grade classroom at New Berlin West Middle/High school. Prior to creating this unit plan I was in my field placement interacting with other teachers in the school and participated in parent teacher conferences. I spent 1 morning a week at my field so I was aware of the student learning needs and the support they receive from their families. With my relationships between students and my cooperating teacher in mind I created a unit plan that would address the school needs as it aligned with the Common Core. Also, because students were creating a final product based assessment that involved creating their own short story they would have to draw on their prior knowledge relating to their ability to express themselves. This unit also supported their cognitive needs in their continued academic development with using evidence from text to analyze and infer. The unit also addressed social needs with lessons that allowed for student collaboration. Addressing all of these needs served as a benefit for the whole student. Planning for a target group of students and understanding their learning and personal needs allowed me to create a unit plan for the whole student.
